Welcome to the pond

Welcome to the pond

September 2012

Dear Students,

Unfortunately I am not able to welcome you back this September. Two weeks ago I went into the hospital to have a chest x-ray to see if I had bronchitis. Instead the doctors found a problem with my heart. To make a long story short, the doctors had to repair my mitral valve. The operation was a success and now I am going through the healing process. I look forward to teaching you later this year.

21st Century Learning

The 21 st Century Learner in Our Classroom
During this school year students have been using technology in
the classroom as a learning tool. They have used computers to research, gather
and organize information on a variety of topics. Students have sharpened their
presentation skills by producing cross curricular projects using a variety of
media programs (e.g. MovieMaker, Prezi, Corel Presentations, Blogger and
Glogster). As a final project, a group of students were asked to create a Glog
that would show you some of the computer activities and assignments that our
class has been working on. You can check out their collaborative project by
clicking on the hyperlink above. You will have to "Temporarily Allow Pop-ups" to
view the internal glogs.
A job well done goes out to: Adam, Laura, Henry, Kristen, Erica and Jack.

View the video below on how to make your own Glog.

The Hockey Song via Skype

The grade 5/6 students linked up with retired high school teacher Mr. Tracey (on guitar) from St. Catharines, On. via SKYPE to record their version of "The Hockey Song", written by Stompin' Tom Connors. After a number of takes using a digital camera, editing, combined with MovieMaker and Audacity software the students were able to create their own unique recording.
